Prayer Update – Aug 3, 2022

Teen Camp and Family Camp is Finished

Hi Everyone,

It has been a busy week with Teen camp and then a busy weekend with Family Camp!  It was a great week with the 54 teen campers that we had here at camp. The schedule at teen camp is very different from regular camp where they get to sleep in a bit longer and stay up later. We had fun activities like a girls and guys night, talent show, coffee house, a banquet, and the Arbo Cup on Friday (different field games where cabins compete for the cup!). Sean lead the campers through the book of Daniel and presented the Gospel powerfully in each chapel session.  Please pray for these young teens as they continue to grow in their faith and that they can get connected with a youth group or church to help them in their walk with God.

This past weekend we held our Family Camp. We had 18 families join us with about 90 people. The weekend started out a bit cooler but that did not stop the families from enjoying the camp and the lake. Family camp schedule is fairly laid back with our beach being open and a few other activities like the climbing wall. Families can enjoy visiting and hanging out at the beach. We have a chapel in the morning and the evening and this weekend we heard from Dan Johnson. Dan comes from Minnesota, where he recently retired from being a senior pastor. He was formerly the pastor at the Melfort Evangelical Covenant Church, so it was great to have him back at Stoney to speak God's message to us. He walked us through what we would like to have on our epitaph, which he explained through 4 men from the Bible that did not have a physical tombstone (Enoch, Moses, Elijah, and of course Jesus). He encourage us to walk face to face with God, impacting others with the resurrection power of Christ.

During the weekend, we celebrated the 65th anniversary of Stoney on Sunday. We had an open house at 2:00 and a celebration worship service at 3:30. It was wonderful to see many people come and visit, sharing their memories of camp. We honoured Doug and Rose for their 43 years of service to the camp and enjoyed a wonderful bbq supper with cake.

This Week: Squirt Camp

Yesterday, we started our Squirt camp! This is our youngest camp for kids aged 7-9 and we have 123 campers this week! We run Squirt camp a little different than our Junior camps. The campers are put into teams and they go through a rotation of most of our skills. This way they get to experience a bit of what regular camp is like and get them ready for a full week of camp. They are only here for 3 nights so please pray for our cabin leaders that they would be diligent in loving these little campers and telling them about the Good News of Jesus!

Glenda Lees is back to speak this week and we are excited to have her back. Glenda is presenting the Gospel through the different holidays we celebrate in our lives. Pray that the campers would hear God's message for them through Glenda and have the opportunity to respond to His gift of salvation.

Our volunteers this week are: Jackie Lockhart, Jill Gendall, and Darcey Alsbach in the kitchen;  Forrest and Ruth Pederson - grandparents;  Tabitha Clayson - nurse with Hannah Povey as her assistant;  Laiya Harman & Laura Little as general volunteers helping with the program.

Our LIT's this week are: Leah Elliott, Alyssa Yaskow, Zara Young, Kora Giesbrecht, Joshua Schmidt, Hayden Gendall and Harris Kellington.

Prayer Requests

Camp is a very busy place, and all our staff are working together as a community to serve God in sharing the Gospel to our campers. We can't do this on our own, we need God's help and guidance to achieve this great task He entrusted us with. Would you help us in praying for our staff, campers, and volunteers? Here are some prayer requests and praise items you can pray for:

  • We are thankful for the many registrations that are coming in, we are over 800 campers so far for the summer!
  • Pray for our cabin leaders and LIT's. Pray for their health and safety throughout the summer. Pray that God would give them the wisdom and patience for their campers many questions, knowledge to answer those questions, and the love to show to these campers.
  • Pray for our summer leadership team. Pray for Claire, our program director. Pray for her health and safety. Pray that she will get the rest she needs when she needs it, and that she will grow in her faith this summer.
  • Pray for our campers. Pray that there would be no accidents, or sickness happen. Pray that they would come to know their Savior here at Stoney.
  • Pray for Jay & Jen as they lead the team this summer.
  • Pray for Tracy & Paddy Reed, as this is their first summer with us at Stoney. Tracy is our Facility Manager and Paddy is the Kitchen Coordinator.
  • Pray for Jesse Alsbach as our Associate Director, Millie Hart as our LIT Director, and Jason & Pam Kellington as our Senior Staff Supervisors.
  • Pray for continued financial and prayer support for the camp.  Praise God for the many people who do support Stoney in this way.
