Prayer Update – July 31, 2023

Junior Two is a Wrap!

Hi Everyone,

It was an incredible week with our Junior 2 campers! The weather was hot and then cold but it didn't stop the campers from having a great week! We started off the week with some campers feeling very homesick, but most of them stuck it out and stayed for the week!  Myra had the campers memorizing scripture each day during chapel, and it was so encouraging to hear the campers throughout the week reciting these verses! Praise God for the campers that made commitments and for those who are going home with the Word of God imprinted on their hearts! Myra had campers coming to say verses during the day to get cabin points for the cabin race, and one day two boys came to say their "Nursery Rhymes". This is an example of how much our campers need to hear the Word of God and know that they are loved by their Heavenly Father!  Pray for these campers as they go home; pray that God would place godly people in their lives to help guide them and encourage them in their faith.

This Week: Teen Camp

We are into our first day of Teen Camp and we are excited to have these young men and women come spend a week at camp! We have 64 campers between the ages of 14-18 here this week. The schedule is very different for these teen campers. We let them sleep in a bit and have later nights. There are only two skills and they get to choose two different skills half way through the week. In the evenings we have fun activities that we normally don't get to do with our younger campers. We are pumped for this week with theses teens and can't wait to see how God will be working in the cabin devotions and conversations throughout the day.

This week we have Kaitlin Brennan as our speaker. Kaitlin is no stranger to camp, as she has been here as a camper, cabin leader, and the Program Director. Kaitlin works at Briercrest College and this is her second time speaking at our Teen camp. She will be taking the campers through the book of Jonah during our chapel sessions and later on going through 3 different stories of Jesus' interactions with 3 women in the Bible. We are excited to see how God will work through her and the cabin devotions with the cabin leaders!

Our volunteers this week are: Arlene Schmidt & Kelly Taylor - cooks; Angie Taylor - nurse; Em Currie & Jenna Giddings - program helpers; Austin Dyck - Nipawin Bible College rep, he will be helping in a cabin and skills.

Our LIT's are campers this week. Pray that they will enjoy their time as campers and be receptive to hearing God's Word.

Camper Stories - Why We Do What We Do!

Our Male Work Crew Boss, Matt Lewis, got a message from one of the work crew campers from the first session. It was so encouraging to hear the impact the program had on this camper so we wanted to share with all of you. This is the message:

"The peace and joy I have received from God and His Word over the last couple of weeks is immeasurable and I can't fathom it. Realizing that even though I am still experiencing tough emotions and doubts, God is walking by my side and is providing me with a way through it. He is transforming my life and my thoughts. It no longer feels like I have to fight my battle alone but I have somebody fighting along side me. I'm so thankful for how god worked through camp to give me the opportunity to start building a personal relationship with the Lord."

This is why we do what we do at camp. We are here to present the Gospel to our campers and to disciple young believers in the church. Would you please pray for our cabin leaders, work crew bosses, and our leadership team as we continue the mission for this summer. They go through each week, fighting colds and sickness, but diligently loving their campers each week. It is hard sometimes to wake up early for personal devotions and the staff meeting after a hard night with their campers. Pray for their personal times with God, that they would be filled with His truths and promises for them; so in turn they can pour into their campers.

Pray for our campers, as they go home each week. Pray for God and the Holy Spirit to continue working in their hearts. That the "camp high" would not be just for a week, but they would desire each day to make the commitment to follow Christ in every aspect of their day. God is so good and we see his might hand working here at camp, hopefully you can get a glimpse of that through this prayer letter. We are so incredibly thankful for your prayer support each week!

Prayer Requests

Camp is a very busy place, and all our staff are working together as a community to serve God in sharing the Gospel to our campers. We can't do this on our own, we need God's help and guidance to achieve this great task He entrusted us with. Would you help us in praying for our staff, campers, and volunteers? Here are some prayer requests and praise items you can pray for:

  • We are thankful for the many registrations that are coming in, we are over 850 campers so far for the summer! Our Squirt camp has room for campers, so pray for that week of camp to fill up!
  • Pray for our cabin leaders and LIT's. Pray for their health and safety throughout the summer. Pray that God would give them the wisdom and patience for their campers many questions, knowledge to answer those questions, and the love to show to these campers.
  • Pray for our summer leadership team. Pray for Emma, our program director. Pray for her health and safety. Pray that she will get the rest she needs when she needs it, and that she will grow in her faith this summer.
  • Pray for our campers. Pray that there would be no accidents, or sickness happen. Pray that they would come to know their Savior here at Stoney.
  • Pray for Jay & Jen as they lead the team this summer.
  • Pray for Tracy & Paddy Reed.  Tracy is our Facility Manager and Paddy is the Kitchen Coordinator.
  • Pray for Jesse & Stephanie Alsbach. Jesse is our Associate Director and Stephanie is the Administrative Assistant.
  • Pray for Damian & Emily Obando Martinez as our LIT Directors, and Jason & Pam Kellington as our Senior Staff Supervisors.
  • Pray for continued financial and prayer support for the camp.  Praise God for the many people who do support Stoney in this way.
