Prayer Update – July 27, 2018

Junior Two Highlights

Hi Everyone,

It was another busy but great week of camp! The weather was pretty cold until Wednesday evening - I wondered if we had jumped to October!?!?  But then the sun came out in time for night swim Wednesday and it has been beautiful since then!  However, the weather didn't slow the campers down any.  We had quite a few new campers this week so at the beginning of the week there was some hesitancy and things were pretty quiet compared to previous weeks.  But by Tuesday, that completely changed - the new campers settled in and the returning ones gave their all and the general noise level around camp (especially in the dining hall) probably tripled!!!  It has been a loud, crazy week - but the campers seemed to have a lot of fun!  We had a few homesick campers but once again, God kept them here for the whole week!

Jaime did an amazing job with the campers in chapel and the campers seemed to respond well to her and the cabin leaders.  Pray that these campers would go home and continue to learn and grow in the faith, especially as many don't come from Christian or even positive backgrounds.  Pray for Christians to come alongside to disciple them and encourage them in their faith.  We had 18 first time commitments made and 9 recommitments that were shared with the cabin leaders.  One little guy was very excited about becoming a Christian and was sharing it with everyone he saw!

Junior Hi Two

Sunday, July 29 sees our next week of camp starting.  We have 78 campers ages 12-14 registered for camp.  The schedule will look pretty much the same.

Our support staff for the week are:

LITs: Aiden Hergott, Claire Durand and Morgan Atamanchuk

Cooks: Pam Behiel, Rosemary Foley, Arlene Schmidt, Konnie Screiner

Nurse: Angie Taylor

Our speaker this week is Laura Dyck.  Laura has spoken at Stoney many times over the years.  She is part of the leadership at Melfort Evanglical Covenant Church.  She is married to Kelsey and they have 3 grown children.   She loves God and connects well with the campers. Pray for much wisdom and good connection to the campers and that God would speak through her is very real and personal ways to the campers.

Corn Maze!

The Corn Maze is growing!  And that means that Stoney's Fall Fun Days are around the corner.  Mark September 9 & 16 (Sundays) on your calendars to come out with your family for the corn maze and other fun activities at Stoney!  More details will be coming soon.

Kittens

Once again Stoney has been given a bunch of kittens - eight of them! - for the campers to play with while they are here.  And they are a hit, let me tell you.  They probably are more popular than the Tuck Shop and there is always a line up for a chance to hold and play with them.  Cabin's book the cats for cabin time!  And its sometimes difficult to drag the campers away from them to go in for meals.  Those furry creatures are a highlight for sure!

They have all had their first shots and because of being handled constantly, they make the best of pets!  If you are interested in taking one home at the end of the summer, just call the camp and we'll hold one for you - they are free!

Prayer Requests

There are several general but HUGE prayer requests that I have for the whole summer:

  • Pray that these campers would have encouragement to continue in their faith while at home.
  • Pray against homesickness - God has been blessing us this summer with keeping kids here but continue to pray for compassion and patience with the homesick campers.
  • Health and safety of the campers and staff.
  • Pray for our staff as next week there are several that will be gone to take a rest or for family situations.
  • Energy throughout the week and good rests over the weekends for the staff.  With the rapid changes in weather and going from 7:00a.m.-11:00p.m. every day for 3 weeks now, they are starting to get sick and tired.
  • Praise God for the steady increase in camper numbers.  However, we still have room for more campers.  Continue to pray that God would fill the camp and we would have more opportunities to share the Gospel.
  • Pray that God would work in the staff's lives as they work with the campers, that they would rely on God for everything they need especially as the weeks go on and they get tired.

Well I think that’s it for this update.  Thanks again for your prayers.
