Prayer Update – July 20, 2018

Junior Hi One Recap

Hi Everyone,

It was a busy but another great week of camp! We had amazing weather this week - great for beach days.  The rain held off until the evening on Wednesday night - perfect timing for the planned Dodgeball tournament which was held in the chapel.  So many fun "extras" happened this week - surprise MI 2.0, a Rock Paper Scissors competition, Dodgeball, Blob Party and Slip 'n Slide Beach party.  The campers were a great group of kids who just wanted to have fun and enjoy a great week.

Luke did an amazing job sharing the Gospel with the campers.  He caught their attentions right from day one - maybe because of his constipation & dad jokes! Although many of the campers started out the week just wanting to be here for the fun, I believe the Holy Spirit was working and by the end of the week many of them have been really thinking about what they've been hearing in chapel and devotions. The cabin leaders really pushed the campers to think about taking their faith seriously as many of them have been coming to camp for many years now but faith has just a camp thing for many of them.  Pray that these campers would go home and continue to learn and grow in the faith, making it their own.  Pray for Christians to come alongside to disciple them and encourage them in their faith.  We had 3 commitments made and probably many personal recommitments that weren't shared.

Junior Two Begins

Sunday, July 22 sees our next week of camp starting.  We have 105 campers ages 8-11 registered for camp.  The schedule will look pretty much the same.

Our support staff for the week are:

LITs: Matthew Hoess, Averi Nelson, Lance Barnett, Aiden Hergott, Vera Woloshyn

Cooks: Barry & Shirley Craig, Welma Breiter, Carrie Boyd

Nurse: Rae-Lynn Snyder

Maintenance & Custodial: Russ & Marty Harris

Grandparents: Loy & Carla Dahlsjo

Our speaker this week is Jaime Schreiner.  This is Jaime's third time speaking at Stoney.  She is from Tisdale, SK where she lives with her husband and two daughters.  Jaime is a writer and has several published stories and writes articles for different Christian magazines.  She loves God and connects well with the campers. Pray for much wisdom and confidence for her as speaking in front of large groups is still new to her.

Prayer Requests

There are several general but HUGE prayer requests that I have for the whole summer:

  • That the camper's would continue in their faith as they go back to their homes and school.  That the "high" of camp would turn into a steady growth in their faith rather than falling back into old habits.
  • Pray against homesickness - this next week is a younger camp and this is a big issue for them.
  • Health and safety of the campers and staff.
  • Energy throughout the week and good rests over the weekends for the staff.  With the hot weather and going from 7:00a.m.-11:00p.m. every day for 2 weeks now, they are starting to get sick and tired.
  • Praise God for the steady increase in camper numbers.  However, we still have room for more campers.  Continue to pray that God would fill the camp and we would have more opportunities to share the Gospel.
  • Pray that God would work in the staff's lives as they work with the campers, that they would rely on God for everything they need especially as the weeks go on and they get tired.

Well I think that’s it for this update.  Thanks again for your prayers.
