Prayer Update – August 17, 2018

Junior 3 Update

Hi Everyone,

Because I was gone this week to start back at my winter job, I don't actually know what happened this week.  But I did come out a few evenings to video tape and put together the videos and from the little I saw, it seemed that the campers were having a great time.  Like many places, Wednesday was a crazy weather day because of the smoke - it was lighter outside at 8:00 p.m. then it was at 6:00 p.m.!  I happened to get the chance to go to the paintball course while Grandpa Russ was out there - he and Logan took on the campers in a couple rounds.  I don't think he actually hit anyone but he definitely got some war wounds!  It was great to hear how the campers really wanted him to be there and thought it was the best thing that he would play against them!  They were willing to sacrifice playing a certain type of game just so that Grandpa could stay out there to play.  Unfortunately we had a few campers go home early because of homesickness but everyone else stuck it out!

Once again, Margaret Simpson, our speaker for the week, did an amazing job with these campers.  She had the campers and staff do sword drills and some of the campers beat the staff even!  The campers always wanted Margaret to come see them at different skill areas.  This week we had 19 campers make first time commitments and 6 recommitments!  Praise the Lord.  Pray for these young believers, that the seed that was planted this week would have ample opportunities to continue growing as they go home.

Teen Camp

Sunday, Aug. 19 begins our next week of camp.  We have about 68 campers ages 14-17 registered for camp!  The schedule is very different and fairly relaxed although there are a bunch of extra special activities that the campers do this week.

Our support staff for the week are:

Cooks: Colleen Huston (head cook), Blair Enns, Karen Schell

Nurse: Rachel Ukrainetz

Our speaker is Jared Wicks.  This is Jared's first time speaking at Stoney.  He is married and is the youth pastor at Lake Park Baptist Church in Birch Hills.  Pray that Jared would connect well with the campers and staff and that God would use him to help the campers connect faith to their lives after camp.

Prayer Requests

There are several general but HUGE prayer requests that I have for the whole summer:

  • Pray that these campers would have encouragement to continue in their faith while at home.
  • Pray that the staff would continue to have energy and stamina to finish this last week.
  • Pray for our staff as they go back to university/college or to jobs this fall.  Pray that they continue to share the love of Christ with everyone they meet and that they stay faithful and committed in their walks with the Lord.

Well I think that’s it for this update.  Thanks again for your prayers.
