Prayer Update – Aug 19, 2016

Hi Everyone!

Junior Hi 2 is almost over and I am finally getting on top of these prayer updates being out on time!  God has been doing work here this week in these young youth’s lives.  Many of them are looking at their lives and their faith and making the decision to follow Christ for themselves, taking their faith seriously when they go home.  Pray for them that they would find good churches/youth groups and mentors to help them grow in their walks and to stand firm in their schools and/or non-Christian families.

The week was a mixture of weather.  Today is FREEZING! But overall we had beautiful warm afternoons so everyone could go swimming during free time.  We played a bunch of night games, had a dodgeball tournament and generally a lot of fun.  Doug, myself, Michaelya and Ellie all went to Dallas Valley Ranch Camp on Tuesday to “spy” – we went with the purpose of learning how their camp is run and what kind of ideas we might be able to implement here at Stoney.  It was fun seeing a different OneHopeCanada camp and how other camps run.  All 4 of us had a great time and were especially excited about their high and low ropes courses – they look like a lot of fun and the campers that were using them at the time were definitely having fun!

Laura Dyck, our speaker, did an amazing job.  She encouraged the campers to leave her questions, prayer requests or requests to have a meeting to talk to her about life and questions they had.  Laura would answer the questions in chapel and connected with many campers to help them with some issues they are walking through.  It was great to hear and see the campers response in chapel in both how they got into worship and the attention they paid during Laura’s messages.

I am currently uploading cabin pictures from this week on Facebook so if you want to see them, go the Stoney Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stoney-Lake-Bible-Camp/223713554325460.  I will eventually get all the weeks’ cabin pics up so keep checking it out!

JUNIOR 4:

Starting Sunday, August 21, we have 55 Junior campers, age 9-12, coming. This week is a shorter week as we end on Thursday evening instead.  Because of our low camper numbers and because they have to get back to school, several of our staff members will not be here next week.  Thank you to Reese Gaillard, Isaiah Forster, Paige Johnson, Hannah Ukrainetz, Jesse Ukrainetz and Deana Syrenne for the ministry that they had with the camp this summer!

Our support staff for the week are:

Junior Cabin Leaders:  Rachel Linnell, Katelyn Behiel, Allison Behiel

Cooks: Colleen Huston, Sandy Hodgson, Karen Schell, Blair Enns

Nurse: Connie Shearer

Our speaker this week is Phil Houston.  Phil has spoken several years but usually at a Junior Hi camp.  This is his first time speaking to the younger camp.  Phil and his family live in Melfort where he is the Pastor of Youth and Family Ministries at Park Avenue Bible Church.  Pray for him that he would be able to connect well with the campers and that God would use him to share the Gospel message.

STONEY EXTREME:

The weekend of August 26-28, we will be hosting a retreat for ages 16+.  It will be a time of building into our college & career alumni and friends as well as a debrief time for our senior staff.  Joel Houston will be the speaker that weekend. Joel spoke at teen camp last summer and is a faculty member at Nipawin Bible College.  If you are interested in attending this retreat go to the registration page for more information or contact Michaelya at the camp.

CORN MAZE:

The corn is growing!!!! Once again, Stoney has planted and designed a corn maze.  We are planning 2 family days on Sundays September 11 and 18.  Keep watching our facebook page and the website for more details as well as posters that will be sent to churches soon.  If your youth group or other groups would like to book a time to come use the corn maze, contact the camp.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

Pray for the cabin leaders that will be leaving to go get ready for school.  Pray they will be rested up and ready to go.

Pray for the cabin leaders who are left that they will be able to adjust to not having some of their friends working alongside them this last week.  Pray also for high energy levels for the staff to persevere for this last week.

Pray against homesickness.

If you ever have questions or would like to come out to help out or visit, give us a call.  Check out our website: www.stoneycamp.ca.

Once again, THANK YOU so much for your willingness to pray for the camp.

In His service,

Myra Schmidt
