Prayer Update – Aug 18, 2017

Hi Everyone,

Although cooler in the mornings and evenings, the afternoons this week were warm enough that campers were still going to the beach at free time and once again, Tizzy’s Tower was hit!  We had 101 campers here this week ages 12-14 and they all seemed to have a great time.  Lots of energy and they kept going all day long (and even longer in the evenings!).

Luke Bergmann, our speaker this week, did an amazing job connecting with the campers at their level.  Because almost 70% of the camp was boys, he did really well in relating to them with personal stories of pain and farts! And as he and his wife Rachelle are expecting their first child in October, he felt he needed to get prepared by sharing “dad jokes.”  As the cabin leaders shared in staff meeting this morning, many of them reported that although their campers didn’t really ask a lot of questions in devos, you could tell that they were listening and thinking about God. And as they have had opportunities to do one-on-ones with them, the campers have shared that they want to begin taking their faith more seriously.  We had 2 campers make commitments this week but many who made personal recommitments.

TEEN CAMP:

Next week, Aug 20-26, is for ages 14-17 and we have 38 campers registered.  There is still room for more campers – if you know anyone who wants to come sign them up!  Because they are older campers, the schedule will be different.  In some respects the schedule will be more relaxed (sleep in a bit later, less skills, more free time) but at the same time it is a little bit more intense because there are more special things that we do with them: coffee houses, crazier games, staying up later.

Our support staff for the week are:

Cooks: Colleen Huston, Bruce & Nelda Bertram, Blair Enns, Karen Schell

Nurse: Amy Heroux

Our speaker this week is Landon Schubert.  This will be Landon’s first time speaking at Stoney.  He is a recent graduate of Nipawin Bible College and completed his internship at Spalding Crossroads Bible Church this past spring.  He also married Rachel this summer and they are living in Prince Albert currently while Rachel completes her nursing program.  Pray that Landon would connect well with the campers and be clear in sharing the Gospel.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

Pray that as many of these campers will have been coming to camp since Squirt camper age, they would be encouraged to take their faith seriously.  There will also be a huge knowledge range as some of the campers are our LITs who have been serving this summer and growing in their faith.

This last week is a pretty intense one for our staff.  Pray for much energy, health and strength.  Pray that they are relying on the Lord and not their own abilities.

REGISTRATION

Unfortunately we had to cancel Stoney Extreme weekend.  There just wasn’t enough people registered for it.

JOY camp is coming up on Sept 1-3.  This is a weekend for those “Just Older Youth” ages 60+ to enjoy the camp and visit with new and old friends.  The schedule is relaxed with lots of time to enjoy God’s creation and hear His word through the messages of Ivan Friesen.  If you are interested in attending, call the camp to register (306-873-5537).

FAMILY DAYS

On Sundays, September 10 & 17, from 1:00-5:00, Stoney will once again be hosting a family fun day in which all are invited to enjoy the corn maze, fun camp activities like the climbing wall, wagon rides and tours of the camp.  There will be a BBQ throughout the afternoon as well.  Cost: Adults $7, Kids (6-12) $5, 5 and under free.  Come on out.  Call the camp if you have any questions.

Well I think that’s it for this update.  Thanks again for your prayers.
